# Updatable Starters, Metro Improvements, and Merry Christmas

This week, the team worked on quality of life updates while some of the team went on break for the holiday season. Merry Christmas from Railway! 🎄 🎅

## Updatable Starters

Starters are amongst the most popular offerings on Railway. However, we’ve had users come back and ask us how they can update them to their latest versions. Updating used to be painful but starting today, we’re changing that.

With updatable starters, every time you visit your project on Railway, we will check to see if the project it is based on has been updated by its maker. 

If it has, we will prompt you to update your project. On confirmation, we will create a branch on Github and open a PR deployment for you on Railway. This way, we don’t replace your production deployment and you can test things out within the PR deploy. 

Once you’re happy with the changes, you can merge the PR and your production deployment will be updated to the latest version! ## Metro Improvements

Over the last week, we have had a lot of you join our beta program (anyone can now request access in the #feedback channel of our [Discord](https://discord.gg/railway))! It has been awesome to onboard everyone to the new version of Railway. While Metro is still in beta, we have made a lot of improvements and bug fixes based on feedback from the community. These fixes include

- Updated and improved variables page for services and database plugins
- Switch to the selected environment when clicking on activity item
- Many metro fixes when viewing *legacy deploys*

Please keep all the metro feedback coming in the #priority-boarding channel! We will continue to address this feedback in the next few weeks in order to make Metro the best version of Railway possible.
