As we’ve [mentioned previously](https://railway.com/changelog/2025-05-02-great-metal-migration#trial-plan-deletion-reminder), this only impacts Trial projects and the reason we’re doing this is to pave the way for a new free plan that’s coming shortly. [Weekly readers](https://railway.com/changelog/2025-05-16-gcp-legacy#new-free-plan-incoming) may have noticed that the free plan was *supposed* to arrive today, but we’ve put off the announcement until next week to give us a bit more time to finish [The Great Metal Migration](https://railway.com/changelog/2025-05-02-great-metal-migration#the-great-metal-migration). Thanks for bearing with us. 🫡 ## Data Safety First [Image: New safety measures are now in place to protect inadvertent volume deletions] We wanted to tell you that we’ve introduced a couple of new safety measures to protect you from inadvertently deleting volumes. While previously it was possible to delete a volume attached to a service even if the service requires the volume to function (think something like Postgres), it’s now *impossible* to delete the essential volume without deleting the entire service first. In addition, we now prevent you from mounting these essential volumes to the wrong path. If you want to know some backstory here, well, we felt very sad when we heard a couple stories of users losing or nearly losing data by inadvertently deleting essential volumes. After we heard about it a couple times, we quickly made the change to discourage this behavior. It’s an honor to run your workloads on Railway and we’ll always consider your data (and your trust) our most important responsibility.
