## Documentation

# Deploy and Host Audiobookshelf on Railway

[Audiobookshelf](https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf) is a self-hosted audiobook and podcast server: stream your library from any browser or the mobile apps, keep progress in sync and subscribe to podcasts.

## About Hosting Audiobookshelf

This template runs the official `ghcr.io/advplyr/audiobookshelf:latest` image with one persistent volume at `/data`. The start command keeps config in `/data/config`, metadata and covers in `/data/metadata`, and creates `/data/audiobooks` and `/data/podcasts` for your media. On first visit create the root (admin) user right away, then add a library pointing at `/data/audiobooks` or `/data/podcasts` and upload files from the web UI.

## Common Use Cases

- Stream your audiobook collection to the iOS and Android apps
- Subscribe to and auto-download podcasts
- Share a library with family members, each with their own progress

## Dependencies for Audiobookshelf Hosting

- One service with a volume; nothing else

## Why Deploy Audiobookshelf on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL for the mobile apps, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Grow the volume as your library grows.
