# Deploy and Host Dossier on Railway

Dossier is a self-hosted job search workspace for maintaining one career profile, generating tailored resumes and cover letters with AI, and tracking applications from draft to offer. It provides profile management, job discovery, document editing, PDF exports, optional integrations, and private PostgreSQL-backed storage for a single user.

## About Hosting Dossier on Railway

Railway runs Dossier from its published versioned GHCR image, with PostgreSQL as a private dependency and a persistent volume for backups and generated files. The public Railway domain routes HTTPS traffic to the application on port 3000.

## Deployment Notes

The Dossier service listens on port 3000 and exposes `/api/health` for health verification. `DATABASE_URL` references the PostgreSQL service. `DOSSIER_PASSWORD` is generated as a Railway secret and hashed at startup by the required start command. `DOSSIER_SECRET` must remain stable. Mount `/data` for backups and generated downloads. Configure an AI provider in the Dossier settings or add the supported `DOSSIER_AI_*` variables.

## Dependencies for Dossier on Railway

Dossier requires one PostgreSQL service for migrations and application data. The app service also uses a persistent volume for backups and generated files.
