# Deploy and Host Elasticsearch on Railway

[Elasticsearch](https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch) is a distributed search and analytics engine for full-text search, logs and vector search.

## About Hosting Elasticsearch

This template runs the official `elasticsearch:8.19.23` image as a single node with a persistent volume at the data directory and a 768 MB heap sized for Railway. Security is on: the `elastic` user has a random `ELASTIC_PASSWORD` generated into the service variables (read it in the Variables tab). Anonymous visitors can only read basic cluster info at `/`; everything else needs the password, for example `curl -u elastic: https:///_cluster/health`.
