# Deploy and Host n8n

Deploy n8n, an open-source workflow automation tool, on Railway with a Postgres database and persistent storage already wired together.

## About Hosting

This template runs the official `n8nio/n8n` image as one service and a Postgres database as another. n8n stores workflows, credentials and execution history in Postgres, and keeps its local data in a volume mounted at `/home/node/.n8n`. The n8n service is exposed through a generated public domain so you can open the editor and receive webhooks.

## Why Deploy

- Runs n8n without configuring Docker, a database or storage yourself.
- Database connection variables reference the Postgres service, so nothing is hardcoded.
- Data survives redeploys because it lives in Postgres and a persistent volume.

- Receiving webhooks and routing their data to other services.
- Scheduled jobs that sync or clean up data.
- Internal back-office workflows for a small team.

## Dependencies for n8n

- **Postgres**: stores workflows, credentials and executions. Provisioned by this template.
- **Volume**: mounted at `/home/node/.n8n` on the n8n service.

## Important Notes

- `N8N_ENCRYPTION_KEY` is generated at deploy time. Keep a copy of it; without it, saved credentials cannot be decrypted.
- Open the public domain after deploy to create the owner account.
