## Documentation

# Deploy and Host FounderOS on Railway

FounderOS is a self-hosted founder operating system for running a solo business or small team. It combines a desktop-style workspace with projects, tasks, relationships, pipelines, knowledge, applications, and AI-assisted workflows. This Railway template deploys the browser UI with its Go API, PostgreSQL database, and Redis session cache for a ready-to-use private workspace.

## About Hosting FounderOS on Railway

[![Deploy on Railway](https://railway.com/button.svg)](https://railway.com/new/template/founderos-1)

This template runs FounderOS from a Docker image on Railway, with PostgreSQL and Redis provisioned as private supporting services. Railway supplies HTTPS, service networking, generated secrets, persistent database volumes, and one-click template deployment.

## Tech Stack

- FounderOS all-in-one Docker image with the SvelteKit UI and Go API.
- SvelteKit with Node.js for the browser application.
- Go and Gin for the backend API.
- PostgreSQL 18 for workspace and operational data.
- Redis 8.2 for sessions, caching, and pub/sub.

## Why Deploy FounderOS on Railway

Railway provides a simple path from a Docker image to a private, internet-accessible FounderOS workspace. The application, database, and Redis services communicate over Railway's private network, while the web service receives a managed HTTPS domain. Environment references keep credentials scoped to the project and generated secrets avoid hard-coded production keys.

## Common Use Cases

- Run a private command center for a solo founder or small team.
- Track projects, tasks, relationships, offers, pipelines, and deliverables.
- Organize durable company knowledge and workspace context.
- Use a desktop-style web UI for daily business operations.
- Start with deterministic local-safe AI settings and add a provider key later.

## Deployment Notes

- The public `app` service listens on container port `3000`; Railway routes the generated domain to that port through `PORT=3000`.
- The image starts the Go API internally on port `8001` and the SvelteKit server on port `3000`; the frontend proxies `/api/*` to the local API.
- No custom `startCommand` is required; the image's own entrypoint starts both processes.
- PostgreSQL migrations run automatically on application startup. PostgreSQL persists at `/var/lib/postgresql/data`; Redis persists at `/data`.
- `DATABASE_URL` and `REDIS_URL` reference the private `Postgres` and `Redis` services. `SECRET_KEY`, `TOKEN_ENCRYPTION_KEY`, `REDIS_KEY_HMAC_SECRET`, `INTERNAL_API_SECRET`, and `WEBHOOK_SIGNING_SECRET` are generated by Railway template variables.
- `ORIGIN`, `BASE_URL`, and the frontend URL variables use `https://${{RAILWAY_PUBLIC_DOMAIN}}`, so each deployment accepts its own Railway domain.
- The app does not ship with an initial username or password. Create the first account from the login page.
- Optional integrations and AI providers can be enabled by adding their supported API variables after deployment. `FOUNDEROS_WRITES=0` and `FOUNDEROS_CRONS=0` keep outbound writes and scheduled work disabled by default.

## Dependencies for FounderOS on Railway

FounderOS depends on a PostgreSQL service for durable application data and a Redis service for authenticated sessions, caching, and pub/sub. The `app` service is the only public HTTP service; the dependency services remain private.
