# Deploy and Host GitHub MCP Server on Railway

[GitHub MCP Server](https://github.com/github/github-mcp-server) is GitHub's official Model Context Protocol server. It lets AI assistants and agents read repositories, issues and pull requests, search code and manage workflows through GitHub's API.

## About Hosting GitHub MCP Server

This template runs the official `ghcr.io/github/github-mcp-server` image in its streamable HTTP mode (`github-mcp-server http`) on port 8082. The server stores nothing and holds no GitHub credentials: every client sends its own GitHub token in the `Authorization: Bearer ` header, so it is never an open door to your account. Point an MCP client at `https:///` (also `/readonly` for read-only tools and `/x/` to expose a single toolset). The root URL has no web page; `/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource` returns metadata and is used as the health check.
