## Documentation

# Deploy and Host GitHub Release Monitor on Railway

[GitHub Release Monitor](https://github.com/iamspido/github-release-monitor) is a self-hosted app that watches repositories on GitHub, GitLab and Codeberg and notifies you when a new release appears.

## About Hosting GitHub Release Monitor

This template runs the official `ghcr.io/iamspido/github-release-monitor:latest` image with a persistent volume at `/app/data`, so your repository list and settings survive redeploys. Login is required (Basic mode). The one-time setup token that creates the first admin account is the `AUTH_SETUP_TOKEN` variable of the service: find it in the Railway Variables tab, open the app URL and use it to create your admin account. Add a GitHub token and mail or Apprise settings later in the service variables to enable higher rate limits and notifications.

## Common Use Cases

- Get notified about new releases of the tools you depend on
- Filter releases by channel or regex patterns
- Send alerts by email or through Apprise (Telegram, Discord, Slack and more)

## Dependencies for GitHub Release Monitor Hosting

- One service with a volume; nothing else

## Why Deploy GitHub Release Monitor on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Open the URL after the deploy and create the admin account with `AUTH_SETUP_TOKEN`.
