# Deploy and Host LibreTranslate on Railway

[LibreTranslate](https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate) is a free, open-source machine translation API powered by Argos Translate. It runs fully offline on your own server, with a simple web UI and a JSON API.

## About Hosting LibreTranslate

This template runs the official `libretranslate/libretranslate:latest` image with a volume at `/home/libretranslate/.local` for the language models. To keep memory and first-boot time reasonable, the start command loads English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese with 2 workers. The first boot downloads these models (a few minutes) to the volume; each restart checks for missing or updated models. To change languages, edit `--load-only` in the service's start command.

The API is public and has no API key by default. Use `--api-keys` and the `ltmanage keys` command if you want to restrict it.
