## Documentation

# Deploy and Host Light Phone Luma Dashboard on Railway

Luma Dashboard is a self-hosted dashboard for Luma, vandamd's launcher for the Light Phone III. Choose the tools and apps on your phone, set a message above the lock screen clock, and add live cards under it: weather, webhooks, and Habitica tasks you can complete from the lock screen. Not affiliated with Light.

## About Hosting Light Phone Luma Dashboard

The template runs two services. `backend` is the open-source Convex backend running the dashboard's functions, with its data on a Railway volume. `web` serves the dashboard and passes only the phone's sync connection and lock screen webhooks to the backend over Railway's private network. The instance secret is generated during deployment, so there is nothing to fill in. When both services are running, open the web service's URL, create an account, and enter that same URL under Server on Luma's login screen. Changes made on the dashboard reach the phone within seconds.

## Common Use Cases

- Run your own Luma dashboard, with your phone's setup and data on your own server
- Show Habitica dailies, To-Dos and habits on the lock screen, complete them with a long-press, and get reminders as phone notifications
- Send messages to your lock screen from scripts or home automation through a webhook

## Dependencies for Light Phone Luma Dashboard Hosting

- A Luma build with the Server setting on its login screen ([github.com/vandamd/luma](https://github.com/vandamd/luma))
- A Railway volume for the backend's data (included in the template)

### Implementation Details

The `web` service's healthcheck is `/version`, which only passes once it can reach the backend. To use your own domain, add it to `web`, set the backend's `CONVEX_CLOUD_ORIGIN` to the new `https://` address and redeploy, then reconnect Habitica so its webhook follows. Never change `INSTANCE_SECRET` once there is data.
