# Deploy and Host Mealie on Railway

[Mealie](https://github.com/mealie-recipes/mealie) is a self-hosted recipe manager and meal planner. Import recipes from any website by URL, organise them with tags and cookbooks, plan meals for the week and build shopping lists.

## About Hosting Mealie

This template runs the official `ghcr.io/mealie-recipes/mealie` image with the built-in SQLite database and a persistent volume at `/app/data`, so recipes, images and settings survive redeploys. No separate database service is needed. Public sign-up is off by default.

Mealie normally ships with a well-known default login. To keep a public deployment safe, this template replaces the default password with a random one at startup. Open the service's Variables tab in Railway and copy `MEALIE_ADMIN_PASSWORD`, then sign in with the email `changeme@example.com` and that password. Change both under your user profile after the first login.
