## About Hosting Metabase BI with PostgreSQL

Deploying this template creates Postgres, Metabase in your Railway project. The application receives an HTTPS domain automatically. Database and Redis services, when included, use private networking and generated credentials. Persistent data is stored on the included volumes or object storage, so application redeploys do not discard it.

## First launch

1. Allow a few minutes for the first JVM startup and schema initialization.
2. Open the generated domain and complete the administrator setup.
3. Connect the database or warehouse you want to analyze using a user with limited access.
4. Build a question and dashboard, then invite your team.

## Operations

The included PostgreSQL service is the Metabase application database, not a populated business dataset. Back it up and keep MB_ENCRYPTION_SECRET_KEY. Update MB_SITE_URL after switching to a custom domain. Enterprise features and external data sources are not bundled.

Images are pinned to verified upstream image digests captured on 2026-10-17. Review upstream release notes, back up persistent data and update the image deliberately when upgrading. Railway charges the deployer for running services, storage and network usage.
