# Deploy and Host MiniStack with Redis on Railway

MiniStack is a lightweight AWS service emulator designed for development, testing, CI/CD, and integration workflows without requiring access to real AWS infrastructure.

This deployment includes MiniStack together with Redis for features that depend on an external Redis service, while keeping the core AWS-compatible APIs accessible through a single gateway.

## About Hosting MiniStack with Redis

This deployment runs MiniStack and Redis as separate Railway services.

MiniStack exposes a unified AWS-compatible gateway on port `4566`, allowing applications, AWS SDKs, CLI tools, Terraform, CDK, Pulumi, and test frameworks to interact with supported AWS services through one endpoint.

Redis is connected through Railway private networking and is used by MiniStack features that rely on an external Redis instance.

A Railway Volume can be mounted to MiniStack to retain supported persistent emulator data such as S3 state.

No real AWS account or production AWS credentials are required for standard emulator usage.

## Dependencies for MiniStack with Redis

This deployment includes:

* MiniStack
* Redis
* Railway networking
* A Railway Volume for supported persistent MiniStack data

MiniStack does not require:

* PostgreSQL
* MySQL
* MongoDB
* A real AWS account
* Real AWS access credentials

Redis is provided as a separate Railway service and is accessed through Railway private networking.

## AWS-Compatible Gateway

MiniStack exposes its unified AWS API gateway on port:

Applications should configure their AWS SDKs or CLI tools to use this domain as the custom AWS endpoint.

## Connecting with AWS CLI

AWS CLI can connect to MiniStack by providing a custom endpoint.

Test credentials can be used when communicating with MiniStack.

A real AWS account is not required for standard emulator workflows.

## Connecting Applications

Applications can configure AWS-compatible SDKs to use the MiniStack endpoint instead of the real AWS service endpoint.

Public endpoint:

Applications running inside the same Railway project can alternatively use Railway private networking.

For a service named `ministack`:

The same gateway can be used for multiple supported AWS services.

## Redis Integration

Redis runs as a separate Railway service and communicates with MiniStack through Railway private networking.

This allows MiniStack features that rely on Redis to use a dedicated Redis instance without requiring Redis to run inside the MiniStack container.

Redis itself does not need to be exposed publicly.

## Persistent Storage

Mount a Railway Volume at:

/tmp/ministack-data
```

MiniStack can use this directory to retain supported emulator state.

S3 persistence is one of the main use cases for the mounted volume.

Using a Railway Volume allows supported data to survive container restarts and redeployments.

Persistence support can vary by MiniStack service, so not every emulated AWS service should be assumed to provide durable state.

## Health Check

MiniStack provides a health endpoint at:

/_ministack/health
```

Example:

This endpoint can be used to confirm that the MiniStack gateway is running.

## Web Interface

MiniStack is primarily an AWS-compatible API emulator.

It does not provide a full built-in administration dashboard comparable to CloudTwin or Firebase Emulator Suite.

Opening the root Railway domain in a browser should therefore not be expected to display a graphical management interface.

Use AWS SDKs, AWS CLI, infrastructure tools, or the MiniStack health endpoint to interact with and validate the service.

## Docker-Dependent Features

Some MiniStack functionality can rely on launching additional Docker containers.

Examples may include:

* RDS database containers
* ElastiCache containers
* ECS workloads
* Lambda container execution
* Other container-backed emulation features

Railway application services do not normally expose the host Docker socket to deployed containers.

As a result, features that require MiniStack to create child Docker containers may not work in this deployment.

This template is best suited for AWS-compatible API emulation that runs directly within the MiniStack container or uses externally provided dependencies such as Redis.

## RDS and Database Emulation

MiniStack can emulate RDS-related APIs, but full database instance orchestration may depend on Docker-backed containers.

This Railway deployment does not provide a Docker socket to MiniStack.

Therefore:

* RDS control-plane API behavior may still be available depending on the MiniStack implementation
* Automatic creation of real database containers should not be expected
* A separate PostgreSQL service does not automatically become a MiniStack-managed RDS instance

If your workflow depends heavily on RDS data-plane behavior, validate that specific functionality before relying on this deployment.

* MiniStack is intended for development, testing, CI, and integration workflows.
* It is not a production replacement for AWS.
* MiniStack emulates selected AWS APIs rather than the complete AWS platform.
* The unified AWS-compatible gateway runs on port `4566`.
* Redis is provided as a separate private Railway service.
* Supported persistent data can be stored under `/tmp/ministack-data`.
* No real AWS credentials are required for standard emulator usage.
* MiniStack does not provide a full built-in web administration dashboard.
* Features that require Docker container orchestration may not work on Railway.
* API compatibility can differ from real AWS services.
* Advanced or service-specific workloads should be validated against real AWS before production use.
