# Deploy and Host OpenClaw (Clawdbot) on Railway

OpenClaw (Clawdbot) is an open-source AI agent platform that lets you run your own chatbot gateway and control panel with persistent memory and workflows. The Railway Template provides a one-click deployment with a browser-based setup wizard, enabling you to connect OpenClaw to platforms like Telegram, Discord, and Slack without using the terminal.

## About Hosting OpenClaw (Clawdbot)

Hosting OpenClaw (Clawdbot) on Railway deploys a web-accessible OpenClaw Gateway and Control UI behind Railway’s HTTP proxy. You complete the initial setup in the browser at `/setup` (secured with a password), where you provide your model credentials and optional chat channel tokens. The template mounts a persistent volume at `/data` so your configuration, credentials, conversations, and workspace survive restarts and can be exported for migration. After setup, OpenClaw runs continuously and you interact with it through your connected channels (Telegram/Discord/Slack) and/or the Control UI.

## Common Use Cases

- Run a personal AI assistant without maintaining a dedicated Mac mini or home server
- Deploy a team bot that responds in Telegram, Discord, or Slack with persistent memory and workflows
- Host OpenClaw (Clawdbot) remotely with easy backups and the ability to migrate to another VPS later

## Dependencies for OpenClaw (Clawdbot) Hosting

- A Railway account (to deploy the template and manage service settings)
- At least one supported model provider credential (e.g., Anthropic API key, OpenRouter API key, etc.)

### Deployment Dependencies

- Railway Volumes (persistent storage): https://docs.railway.com/guides/volumes
- Public Networking (HTTP proxy): https://docs.railway.com/guides/public-networking
- Railway Variables (secrets/config): https://docs.railway.com/guides/variables
- OpenClaw (Clawdbot) docs (providers/channels): https://docs.molt.bot/providers

### Implementation Details

The template runs a wrapper service on Railway’s `$PORT` and spawns an internal OpenClaw (Clawdbot) gateway on `127.0.0.1:18789`, proxying HTTP and WebSockets to it. Setup is done in-browser at `/setup` and writes state to `/data/.openclaw` and the workspace to `/data/workspace` for portability and backups.

## Why Deploy OpenClaw (Clawdbot) on Railway?
