# Deploy and Host Openfront Social with Railway

Openfront Social is a self-hostable personal publishing application. Creators use a studio to organize a profile, collections, and items, publish their own site, and review publication history. Readers browse published profiles and collections without receiving access to the creator's private workspace.

## About Hosting Openfront Social

This template provisions the application from [its GitHub repository](https://github.com/openshiporg/openfront-social), PostgreSQL, and a private native Railway Bucket named `Storage`. The database starts empty; no demo records or reusable credentials are included. Initialize the application using the repository's onboarding instructions after deployment.

`DATABASE_URL` references Postgres and the five `S3_*` variables reference the Storage bucket. Generated per deployment: `SESSION_SECRET`.

The app gets a Railway-generated public domain. No custom domains are included.

### Admin Dashboard
Manage studio through dedicated dashboard workspaces and permission-controlled data screens.

### Storefront
Published content uses `/[handle]`, `/[handle]/[collection]`, and `/[handle]/[collection]/[slug]`. Profile publication, collection visibility, and item status determine what becomes public.

### Creator Studio
Manage a personal profile, collections, draft items, publication, archiving, restoration, privacy, destinations, and history at `/dashboard/studio`.

### Publication Snapshots
Publication records preserve content snapshots and provenance. Publication fences coordinate content versions and consent so that a local intent is not confused with an external delivery.

### Destination Consent
External publication jobs require explicit destination consent. An unconfigured provider reports that nothing was sent; connected-account and job records are not proof of active social-network publishing.

## Common Use Cases

- Creator Studio
- Publication Snapshots
- Destination Consent

## Dependencies for Openfront Social Hosting

The app needs a PostgreSQL database and S3-compatible object storage. Both are provisioned by this template.

### Implementation Details

Next.js and Keystone 6 with a GraphQL API, Prisma, and PostgreSQL. Payments, email, and other external providers need their own operator configuration; this template does not activate them.
