# Deploy and Host OpenHands on Railway

[OpenHands](https://github.com/OpenHands/OpenHands) is an open-source AI software-development agent. In its web app, Agent Canvas, you describe a task and the agent writes code, runs commands and edits files in a sandbox.

## About Hosting OpenHands

This template runs the official `ghcr.io/openhands/agent-canvas` image with a persistent volume at `/root/.openhands`, so settings and conversation history survive redeploys. A random API key is generated for you. Open the service's Variables tab in Railway to read `LOCAL_BACKEND_API_KEY`, open the public URL (the UI is at `/canvas`), enter that key when asked, then add your LLM provider and API key in the settings. Anyone with the key can run commands in the container, so keep it secret.
