## Documentation

# Deploy and Host rqlite on Railway

[rqlite](https://github.com/rqlite/rqlite) is a lightweight, distributed relational database that uses SQLite as its storage engine and is operated through a simple HTTP API.

## About Hosting rqlite

This template runs the official `rqlite/rqlite:10.6.5` image as a single node on port 4001 with a persistent volume at `/rqlite/file`. A start command writes an authentication file from the service variables `RQLITE_USER` and `RQLITE_PASSWORD`, which are generated at deploy time; every API request needs those credentials as HTTP Basic auth (only the `/readyz` health check is anonymous). Open the Variables tab to read them.

## Common Use Cases

- A small SQLite database reachable over HTTP
- Store app data with the `/db/execute` and `/db/query` endpoints
- Add more nodes later to make it fault tolerant

## Dependencies for rqlite Hosting

- One service with a volume; nothing else

- [Docker image](https://hub.docker.com/r/rqlite/rqlite)

## Why Deploy rqlite on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Access is behind a generated password, so the database is not open to strangers. Example: `curl -u USER:PASSWORD https:///db/query?q=SELECT+1`.
