# Deploy and Host [Whapi](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava) MCP (Unofficial WhatsApp MCP) on Railway

Keep your WhatsApp number. Keep using your phone. Add AI automation.

[Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava) connects your existing personal or Business WhatsApp account to AI assistants through MCP. Automate messages, work with conversations, manage groups and publish channel updates while continuing to use WhatsApp normally. This template makes the MCP server accessible remotely through an authenticated HTTPS endpoint.

**An API account is required:** Register with [Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava), connect your number and obtain your channel token. A limited free Sandbox is available. Purchase a paid [Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava) plan when you need usage beyond its limits. ### Voice and Video Calls: What Is Supported?

You can continue using WhatsApp on your phone for your normal voice and video conversations.

Through the MCP tools, you can:

- Request a brief outgoing attention call after enabling it in the channel settings.
- Create a group video-call link for participants to open in WhatsApp.
- Retrieve call information and reject incoming calls.

**The MCP does not carry live voice or video streams.** Attention calls are short, automatically terminated call offers; they are not conversations with an AI voice agent. Creating a video-call link does not make the server a participant in the call.

Railway hosts the MCP server and an authentication proxy exposing Streamable HTTP at `/mcp`. The server uses your channel API token to connect to [Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava), which manages the linked WhatsApp session.

A separate, automatically generated secret protects remote access. No database or persistent volume is required. Keep one replica because MCP sessions and replay buffers are stored in memory. All clients using a deployment share its configured channel credentials.

Your AI client supplies the assistant and workflow logic. Event-driven automations need a separately configured webhook receiver or automation platform.

- A WhatsApp number you control, connected through the dashboard.

- A Railway account with sufficient hosting resources.
- An MCP client supporting Streamable HTTP and custom authentication headers.

### Getting Started

1. Register with [Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava), pair your WhatsApp account through the dashboard and copy the channel API token.
2. Deploy this template and enter that token as `API_TOKEN`.
3. Ensure your Railway public domain targets port `8080`.
4. Connect your MCP client to `https://YOUR-RAILWAY-DOMAIN/mcp`.
5. Send the generated `MCP_PROXY_API_KEY` value in the `X-API-Key` request header.

Keep both credentials private. The channel token connects the server to [Whapi.Cloud](https://panel.whapi.cloud/partner_registration/lava); the proxy key gives your client access to the deployed MCP endpoint.

### Implementation Details

- **Remote transport:** Authenticated Streamable HTTP.
- **Health check:** `/ping` checks proxy availability, not the WhatsApp connection.
- **Storage:** No persistent volume; session state is cleared on restart.
- **Timezone:** UTC by default, configurable through `TZ`.
- **Updates:** Builds resolve the latest published npm packages when installation executes. Existing deployments do not automatically update; cached builds may retain an earlier version.
