The Railway team is preparing for our upcoming retreat but that doesn’t mean we don’t have releases from the “vault”. (Get it? Because this is Changelog 101… We’re getting old.)
Service Settings Refresh
Services on Railway are much more powerful from their initial release.
As such, Jitachi and JR took the opportunity to give an important section of the product more love, and in our humble opinion, it shows. Service setting menus now have new descriptions, collapsable sections, and a more eye-friendly layout.
With these changes, we have also refactored the docs page to point specifically to relevant settings.
Nixpacks Configuration Guide
We’ve been working hard to make Nixpacks as configurable as possible. While we recently exposed the build command in the service settings UI, we know that some of you may want to customize your build even further with a nixpacks.toml file. To make it easier, we wrote up a little guide on some common use cases. Check it out at nixpacks.com/guides/configuring-builds. We also now show if a Nixpacks configuration file and even have a link to quickly edit the file on GitHub.
COBOL Support
Community member Finn asked a question that few asked. What if Railway supported COBOL out of the box?
After working in public via their PR. (Trust us, read their comments, it’s a testament to open-source.) We now have rudimentary COBOL support. We can’t speak on-behalf of the late Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (Ret.), but we are sure she would be proud.
