Before we get started, we wanted to let you know that we’re thrilled to be rolling out our VERY FIRST advertising campaign to New York City and San Francisco. 

The campaign is called “Let the engineers ship” and it’s hot off the press throughout the NYC MTA subway system and on a billboard off the Bay Bridge entering SF. 

We like the slogan a lot and we think it typifies what Railway is all about.

Multi-region replicas are now available to Pro users

If your users are spread around the world, you know that having one region isn’t going to cut it.

Previously on Railway, if you wanted to scale-up your service to different locations, you would need to make a new service and deploy it into a new region independently — no longer.

This holiday shopping season, we’re bringing you Railway … 

That’s right, it’s now possible to select one or more regions for replicas in the service settings and we will 

automatically geosteer your traffic to the nearest region

Multi-region replicas are now part of service-level settings

 feature flag in the service-level settings.

You can then set the amount of replicas in a certain region if you expect more traffic to come from a particular region.

We feel this is a massive step up for DevEx on the platform. (Especially for developers who work on a popular e-commerce platform that rhymes with “Spotify” … )

Special shoutout to the Railway Networking team who shipped automatic-traffic-routing with geosteering to enable this new feature.

You’ll now see the other members of your team collaborating in a project with you

Multiplayer collaboration is coming to Railway piece by glorious piece. 

This week we’re pleased to release “awareness” — a new way to see which of your teammates is currently working on the same project canvas as you. 

It’s not that you need the “collaborative document editor” experience per se, but we do think infrastructure UIs in our industry are largely barren of modern, table stakes collaborative design principles and we’re looking to change that for the better. 

For starters, you’ll now see the avatars of your active collaborators on the canvas.

The UI when restoring volume backups has been improved

This week we released a simple UI flow for restoring database backups. 

It’s now possible to restore a backup in two clicks — it doesn’t get more simple than that!
