Deploy and Host Abacus on Railway
What is Abacus?
Abacus is a modern, open-source integer counter API (“Integer as a Service”) that lets developers track numeric events—such as website hits, button clicks, or custom metrics—using simple, unlisted counters. Abacus provides a lightweight, serverless-compatible solution for tracking usage analytics, feature adoption, or any integer-based metric via HTTP, with CORS and scalable backend.
About Hosting Abacus
Hosting Abacus on Railway enables developers to quickly launch their own real-time API for tracking counters and analytics events. Simply deploy the Abacus Docker image or Node.js service to Railway, configure a key-value backend like Valkey (or Redis), and set up your domains/namespaces. Railway automates infrastructure, persistent storage, environment management, security, and scaling needs. Developers can expose secure HTTPS endpoints for increment, get, reset, and badge SVG rendering, all with high-performance serverless infrastructure and built-in rate limiting.
Common Use Cases
- Website page view tracking: Instantly count and display the number of visits or interactions on any web page.
- Button click counters: Track how many times a specific button or action is used in a web or mobile application.
- Real-time event metrics: Power dashboards and live analytics by incrementing counters for custom events (e.g., signups, errors, actions).
Dependencies for Abacus Hosting
- Valkey or Redis database: For high-speed key-value storage backing all counters.
- Node.js runtime or Docker container: To run the Abacus server.
Deployment Dependencies
- Abacus Official Page
- Abacus GitHub Repository (check if repo is public/linked)
