Deploy and Host Activepieces on Railway

Activepieces is an open-source, self-hosted automation platform and a no-code alternative to Zapier and Make. Build workflows with a visual editor, connect 760+ apps and AI steps, and keep your data on your own infrastructure. It can also expose your integrations as an MCP server for AI assistants.
About Hosting Activepieces
Hosting Activepieces means running the app together with a Postgres database that stores your flows, connections and run history. This template deploys everything pre-wired on Railway, so you skip the manual setup. Sensitive connections are encrypted with AP_ENCRYPTION_KEY, logins are signed with AP_JWT_SECRET, and AP_FRONTEND_URL points to your public domain so webhooks and OAuth redirects work. Run logs and files live in the database by default, and you can switch to S3-compatible storage later with no migration.
Common Use Cases
- Replace Zapier or Make with a self-hosted automation platform you fully control
- Connect your apps, CRMs, spreadsheets and databases with no-code workflows
- Build AI-powered automations and give your AI assistants tools through MCP
Dependencies for Activepieces Hosting
- Activepieces service (official Docker image)
- Postgres database (flows, connections and run history)
- Optional: S3-compatible storage for run logs and files
Implementation Details
Key environment variables:
| Variable | Description |
|---|---|
AP_ENCRYPTION_KEY | Encrypts stored connections. Auto-generated on deploy. Do not change it afterwards, or saved connections become unreadable. |
AP_JWT_SECRET | Secret for signing login tokens. Auto-generated on deploy. |
AP_FRONTEND_URL | Public URL of your instance, used for webhooks and OAuth redirects. |
AP_POSTGRES_URL | Postgres connection URL. Pre-linked to the database service. |
AP_FILE_STORAGE_LOCATION | DB (default) or S3 for run logs and files. |
To use S3-compatible storage, also set AP_S3_BUCKET, AP_S3_ACCESS_KEY_ID, AP_S3_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY, AP_S3_ENDPOINT and AP_S3_REGION.
