Follow these steps to launch one of Directus's templates on Railway.

Configure environment variables

Fill in required environment variables highlighted by the template instructions.

Deploy on Railway

Click Deploy to provision infrastructure and monitor the build from the Railway dashboard.

Bucket

Automatically clear cache when content changes.

Enable caching to speed up your Directus instance.

Cache storage type. Pre-configured for Redis.

Database type (PostgreSQL). This is pre-configured.

Database connection. Automatically configured when you add PostgreSQL service.

Where Directus extensions are stored. Set to 's3' to store extensions in cloud storage, enabling them to work across multiple instances if you scale your deployment.

Format logs for easy reading in Railway's dashboard.

Port that Directus runs on. Default is 8055.

Your public Directus URL. This is where you'll access the admin panel. Automatically set when HTTP proxy is enabled on the service.

Redis connection for caching. Automatically configured when you add Redis service.

Encryption key for securing your data. Railway automatically generates this for you.

Use cloud storage for files. Set to 's3' for Railway's storage service.

Storage bucket name. Automatically created by Railway.

Storage driver type. Set to 's3' for S3-compatible storage.

Storage endpoint URL. Automatically configured by Railway.

Required for Railway's S3-compatible storage. Forces path-style URLs instead of virtual-hosted-style.

Storage access key. Automatically provided by Railway.

Storage region. Automatically configured by Railway.

Storage secret key. Automatically provided by Railway.

Required for running multiple Directus instances together.

Enable real-time features like live updates and notifications.

Redis

The internal hostname of the Redis server on Railway's private network. This is automatically set by Railway and uses the `.railway.internal` domain for secure, private communication.

An alias for `REDIS_PASSWORD`. This references the auto-generated Redis password.

The port number on which the Redis server listens. Standard Redis port is 6379.

The username for connecting to Redis. Railway typically sets this to `default` if Redis ACLs (Access Control Lists) are enabled.

The password for authenticating with the Redis server. This is automatically generated by Railway using a secure random generator.

PostGIS

Public URL to connect to Postgres database, used by the Data panel.

Location where the database will be initialized

Default database created when image is started.

The password for the default admin user is set when Directus is created. You can find it in the 'env var' tab after deployment.

Configuration Files - Don't change this if unsure.

Unique identifier for the project. Typically set as a UUID. You can find it in the 'env var' tab after deployment.

Secret string for the project. You can find it in the 'env var' tab after deployment.

The s3 driver is being used in this situation.
