Deploy and Host code-server on Railway
code-server runs VS Code on a remote server and serves it in the browser, so you can code from any device.
About Hosting code-server
This template runs the official codercom/code-server:latest image with a persistent volume at /home/coder for your projects, extensions and settings. A random login password is generated and stored in the PASSWORD variable of the service. Open the service's Variables tab in Railway to read it, then open the public URL and sign in with it.
Common Use Cases
- Browser-based development environment from a tablet or Chromebook
- Consistent remote workspace for a team or a course
- Quick edits to a project on a cloud machine
Dependencies for code-server Hosting
- One service with a volume; nothing else

Why Deploy code-server on Railway?
Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Treat the generated password as the only protection: rotate it in the Variables tab if it leaks.
