Deploy and Host Elasticsearch on Railway

Elasticsearch is a distributed search and analytics engine for full-text search, logs and vector search.

About Hosting Elasticsearch

This template runs the official elasticsearch:8.19.23 image as a single node with a persistent volume at the data directory and a 768 MB heap sized for Railway. Security is on: the elastic user has a random ELASTIC_PASSWORD generated into the service variables (read it in the Variables tab). Anonymous visitors can only read basic cluster info at /; everything else needs the password, for example curl -u elastic: https:///_cluster/health.

Common Use Cases

  • Full-text search for apps and sites
  • Log and event search
  • Vector and hybrid search for AI apps

Dependencies for Elasticsearch Hosting

  • One service with a volume; nothing else

Why Deploy Elasticsearch on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, persistent storage where needed and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Send the generated password with every API request.
