Deploy and Host Gollum on Railway

Gollum is a simple wiki built on Git: every page is a Markdown (or AsciiDoc, Org, RST...) file in a Git repository, with full history, diffs and a browser editor.

About Hosting Gollum

This template runs the official gollumwiki/gollum:6 image on port 8080 with a volume at /wiki, where the Git repository of your pages lives. Gollum has no accounts of its own, so the start command adds HTTP basic auth to every page: sign in as admin with the password in the service's GOLLUM_PASSWORD variable (generated at deploy). /healthz stays open for the health check. After signing in, create the Home page and start writing.

Common Use Cases

  • A private team or personal wiki stored as plain Markdown files
  • Documentation with Git history for every edit
  • A knowledge base you can later clone and edit locally with Git

Dependencies for Gollum Hosting

  • One service with a volume; nothing else

Deployment Dependencies

Why Deploy Gollum on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume for the wiki repository and automatic restarts with no server to maintain.
