Deploy and Host Morphos on Railway

Morphos is a self-hosted file conversion server for private image and document workflows. It provides a simple web interface and an API for converting supported files without sending them to a third-party conversion service. This template uses the upstream Morphos 0.6.0 container image pinned by digest.

About Hosting Morphos on Railway

This template runs Morphos as a single public HTTP service on port 8080. Railway provides the deployment, networking, restart policy, and TLS-backed service domain. Morphos stores intermediate conversion files under /tmp; those files are temporary by design, so this template does not attach a persistent volume or require a database. The application exposes /healthz for readiness checks and /api/v1/formats for supported-format discovery. The image includes the conversion dependencies used by the upstream release, including LibreOffice, FFmpeg, and Calibre.

Common Use Cases

  • Convert images and documents privately during development and content pipelines.
  • Provide an internal HTTP API for applications that need file-format conversion.
  • Offer a lightweight browser-based conversion utility for a small team.

Dependencies for Morphos Hosting

  • The official Morphos Server image from the danvergara/morphos project, pinned to the 0.6.0 image digest.
  • No database, external API credential, or third-party service is required.

Implementation Details

The service listens on port 8080 and uses /healthz as its readiness endpoint. Morphos defaults to /tmp for intermediate files, and the template intentionally leaves this storage ephemeral because converted files are temporary. The template source uses the immutable multi-platform digest for ghcr.io/danvergara/morphos-server rather than the mutable latest tag.

Why Deploy Morphos on Railway?

Railway is a singular platform to deploy your infrastructure stack. Railway will host your infrastructure so you don't have to deal with configuration, while allowing you to vertically and horizontally scale it.

By deploying Morphos on Railway, you are one step closer to supporting a complete full-stack application with minimal burden. Host your servers, databases, AI agents, and more on Railway.
