Deploy and Host Komari on Railway

Komari is a simple, lightweight server monitoring tool designed to provide real-time insights into your infrastructure. Its primary purpose is to track server metrics, uptime, and performance directly from a unified web dashboard. Major features include quick setup and comprehensive metrics, making it ideal for system administrators managing multiple virtual machines.

About Hosting Komari

Hosting Komari on Railway utilizes the platform's robust container infrastructure to run the pre-built Docker image securely. Railway simplifies the deployment process by automatically managing container orchestration, eliminating the need for manual server configuration.

The application relies on persistent storage to maintain monitoring data, historical metrics, and user configurations across container restarts. Railway handles this seamlessly through its integrated volume management. Networking is automatically configured, with Railway providing an out-of-the-box HTTPS edge proxy that routes external traffic directly to the application's internal web interface.

Because Komari utilizes local storage rather than an external database, it is designed to run as a single instance. Railway's platform ensures that your monitoring dashboard remains highly available and easily manageable.

Common Use Cases

  • Server performance monitoring and resource utilization tracking.
  • Uptime tracking for personal projects and virtual private servers.
  • Unified infrastructure health dashboards for system administrators.

Implementation Details

Docker

This deployment utilizes the official pre-built Docker image: ghcr.io/komari-monitor/komari:1.2.6.

Public Networking

Railway will route external web traffic to the container using the following configuration:

Proxy TypeTarget Port
HTTP Proxy25774

Environment Variables

VariableRequiredDescription
ADMIN_USERNAMEYesThe username used to log into the web dashboard.
ADMIN_PASSWORDYesThe password used to log into the web dashboard.
ADMIN_USERNAME=admin
ADMIN_PASSWORD=your_secure_password

Persistent Storage

Komari requires persistent storage to save configuration settings, monitored server credentials, and historical data. Without a volume, all settings will be lost when the container restarts.

To configure this:

  1. Open your Railway Service.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Scroll to Volumes.
  4. Click Add Volume.
  5. Set the Mount Path to:
/app/data

Database

No external database services are required for this application. All necessary data is managed locally within the configured persistent volume.

Build & Start

No custom build or start commands are required. Railway automatically pulls the image from the registry and runs the default container commands.

Accessing the Application

To access your Komari dashboard:

  1. Navigate to the Settings tab of your Railway service.
  2. Under the Networking section, click Generate Domain.
  3. Visit the generated Railway URL in your browser.
  4. Log in using the ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD defined in your environment variables.
  5. Note: To monitor external servers, you will need to configure their SSH credentials within the dashboard after logging in.

Why Deploy Komari on Railway?

Railway is a modern app hosting platform that makes it easy to deploy production-ready apps without the hassle of managing infrastructure. With Railway, you can deploy your applications directly from a GitHub repository or Docker image in minutes. The platform automatically handles builds, deployments, networking, and scaling, allowing you to focus on your code rather than server administration. Railway provides built-in CI/CD, automatic SSL, and seamless integration with persistent volumes and managed databases, making it the ideal environment for applications of any size.
