Deploy Node.js 26 TypeScript Starter
Minimal Node.js 26 LTS + TypeScript service, ready to deploy

Deploy and Host Node.js 26 TypeScript Starter on Railway
A minimal Node.js 26 LTS and TypeScript 7 HTTP service with no framework. It binds PORT on 0.0.0.0, answers GET / with an endpoint list, GET /health with {"status":"ok"} plus uptime, and GET /echo for a quick round-trip. It shuts down gracefully on SIGTERM and SIGINT, needs zero environment variables, and deploys as one separate standalone service, so you can switch or upgrade Node with minimal config.
About Hosting Node.js 26 TypeScript Starter
Deploying this template on Railway takes one service and no database, volume, or required variables. Railway's Nixpacks builder auto-detects Node from .node-version and package.json — there is no Dockerfile — then runs the TypeScript build and starts the compiled server. Railway injects PORT, the service listens on it (8080 by default locally), and the /health endpoint is wired as the Railway healthcheck. A public domain is generated on deploy, so the service is reachable over HTTPS with no extra setup.
Verified locally on 2026-11-06 with Node 26.13.0: npm install was clean, npx tsc --noEmit reported 0 errors, npm run build succeeded, and the built server answered GET / 200, GET /health 200, GET /echo?message=hi 200, and GET /echo 400, then exited 0 on SIGTERM. A live Railway deploy test has NOT happened yet.
Common Use Cases
- Start a new Node.js 26 LTS and TypeScript API or backend service from a minimal, working base.
- Try or pin Node 26 LTS with TypeScript 7 in a small service before adopting it elsewhere.
- Deploy this template as a new service next to one you already run, then move your code over and switch or upgrade Node with minimal config.
Dependencies for Node.js 26 TypeScript Starter Hosting
- Node.js 26.13.0 (LTS "Lithium", pinned in .node-version and engines in package.json)
- TypeScript 7.0.2 and @types/node 26.6.6
- tsx 4.23.15 for watch-mode development
- No database, no volume, and no required environment variables; Railway sets PORT automatically.
Implementation Details
The service is a single TypeScript entrypoint compiled with tsc to dist/ and started with node. It binds PORT (default 8080), serves GET /, GET /health, and GET /echo, returns JSON 404s for unknown routes and JSON 500s for handler errors, and finishes in-flight requests before exiting on SIGTERM or SIGINT.
