Deploy and Host OpenClaw with File Manager on Railway

OpenClaw with File Manager is a ready-to-deploy OpenClaw agent workspace with a built-in browser IDE for files, terminal access, and configuration. It gives you a hosted OpenClaw dashboard, Telegram and OpenAI-friendly defaults, bundled skills, and a simple way to step in when your agent needs manual setup or debugging.

About Hosting OpenClaw with File Manager

This Railway template packages OpenClaw, a gateway dashboard, and a C9-style file manager into one deployable service. Deploy the template, add your environment variables, open the dashboard, and use the included file manager when you need direct access to files, terminal commands, integrations, or OpenClaw configuration. The default setup is optimized for Telegram and OpenAI because they are common starting points, but you can leave those values blank and configure other models or channels later from the hosted workspace.

Why do we need C9 IDE

  • Access to terminal and files, full control of Openclaw config
  • Provide a ability to jump in when Openclaw stuck with the tasks
  • Do compldex 3rd integrations, even a webserver

Common Use Cases

  • Run an OpenClaw agent with a hosted dashboard and persistent workspace.
  • Manage OpenClaw files, skills, configs, logs, and terminal commands from the browser.
  • Connect OpenClaw to Telegram, OpenAI, or other providers through the workspace.

Dependencies for OpenClaw with File Manager Hosting

  • A Railway account for deploying and hosting the template.
  • Optional API credentials such as TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN, OPENAI_API_KEY, and OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN.

Deployment Dependencies

Implementation Details

After deploying, set the environment variables that match how you want to use OpenClaw, some of the env is already populated:

  • TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKEN: Telegram bot token from BotFather.
  • OPENAI_API_KEY: OpenAI API key for the default model setup.
  • C9SDK_PASSWORD: Password for the browser file manager.
  • OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN: Token used to access the OpenClaw gateway dashboard.
  • INITIAL_OPENCLAW_VERSION: Optional OpenClaw npm version to install on first boot. Defaults to 2026.4.22. (At the time the template is published 2026.4.23 is beta and buggy)
  • OPENCLAW_ALLOWED_ORIGIN: Optional extra allowed origins for the control UI.

For the fastest start, deploy the template on Railway, fill in the environment variables you need, open the generated Railway domain, and then use the file manager when you want to adjust OpenClaw settings, install integrations, inspect logs, or work with bundled skills.

Dashboard pairing (auto-approve)

Also for convenient setup, please follow the steps here:

  • Make the container up and running (deploy template, run docker image,..etc..)
  • Access Dashboard gateway (http://localhost:18789 or public domain), input password (OPENCLAW_GATEWAY_TOKEN). It will fail but it will register the first device
  • [A script run in the background and listen the first device trying to pair and automatically approve it]
  • Wait for a bit, or check logs in the IDE: pm2 logs openclaw-auto-approve (look for approved successfully, exiting), or pm2 log readme for a short usage summary
  • Login again, now you can access the dashboard

PM2 Usage

  • pm2 log to view logs from all pm2 processes
  • pm2 log readme view readme
  • pm2 restart openclaw-gateway Restart Openclaw gateway, please use this instead of openclaw gateway restart.
