Deploy and Host Prometheus on Railway
Prometheus is a monitoring system and time-series database: it scrapes metrics from HTTP endpoints, stores them and lets you query and alert on them with PromQL.
About Hosting Prometheus
This template runs the official prom/prometheus:latest image with a persistent volume at /prometheus. It starts with the default configuration, which scrapes only itself, so the expression browser works immediately. Time-series data is kept on the volume. To scrape your own targets, point it at a configuration file of your own.
Common Use Cases
- Scrape metrics from your apps and exporters
- Query them with PromQL in the built-in UI or from Grafana
- Feed Alertmanager rules
Dependencies for Prometheus Hosting
- One service with a volume; nothing else

Why Deploy Prometheus on Railway?
Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. The UI is open to anyone with the URL, so restrict access before sharing it. Open the URL after the deploy and run a query such as up.
