Deploy and Host Speedtest Tracker on Railway

Speedtest Tracker (alexjustesen/speedtest-tracker) runs scheduled internet speed tests and keeps a history with alerts. This template deploys the linuxserver.io image pinned to 1.15.0 with a persistent volume, SQLite by default and an API health check.

About Hosting Speedtest Tracker

Hosting Speedtest Tracker on Railway means running the linuxserver/speedtest-tracker container on port 80 with a volume mounted at /config for its data. The template sets a generated APP_KEY (a base64-prefixed 32-byte key), APP_URL from your public Railway domain, DB_CONNECTION=sqlite, PUID/PGID 1000, a test schedule of every six hours (0 */6 * * *), TZ and PORT=80. The health check path is /api/healthcheck. SQLite is the default; optionally add a Postgres plugin and set DB_CONNECTION=pgsql with DB_HOST, DB_PORT, DB_DATABASE, DB_USERNAME and DB_PASSWORD referencing the Postgres service.

Common Use Cases

  • Monitor latency and throughput to remote or ISP endpoints using custom speedtest servers
  • Use it as an uptime and latency dashboard with a history of results
  • Get alerts when measured speeds drop below a threshold

Dependencies for Speedtest Tracker Hosting

  • lscr.io/linuxserver/speedtest-tracker:1.15.0 container image (built from the Dockerfile in the speedtest-tracker folder)
  • A Railway volume mounted at /config
  • Optional: a Railway Postgres service

Implementation Details

Note: tests measure Railway's datacenter link, so pitch it for monitoring remote or ISP endpoints via custom servers, or as an uptime/latency dashboard.

Required variables:

  • APP_KEY = base64:${{secret(32)}}
  • APP_URL = https://${{RAILWAY_PUBLIC_DOMAIN}}
  • DB_CONNECTION = sqlite
  • PUID = 1000, PGID = 1000
  • SPEEDTEST_SCHEDULE = 0 */6 * * *
  • TZ = America/New_York
  • PORT = 80

Why Deploy Speedtest Tracker on Railway?

Railway is a singular platform to deploy your infrastructure stack. Railway will host your infrastructure so you don't have to deal with configuration, while allowing you to vertically and horizontally scale it.

By deploying Speedtest Tracker on Railway, you are one step closer to supporting a complete full-stack application with minimal burden. Host your servers, databases, AI agents, and more on Railway.
