Deploy and Host Square Pickup Storefront on Railway
An MIT-licensed Square ecommerce template and Square API starter for a single merchant, one pickup location and USD orders. React and Express provide the storefront and protected administrator tools; PostgreSQL preserves order identities and recovery state. Release candidate 0.1.0-rc.2 requires developer-operated, sandbox-first setup. This is not one-click merchant activation or production certification.
About Hosting Square Pickup Storefront
Import supported Square catalog items, allocate website-owned stock, and review Square-calculated taxes and discounts. Protected tools support pickup orders and refunds. Website stock does not automatically synchronize with Square POS. Optional Resend confirmations remain disabled until separate migration, sender setup and delivery verification.
The template starts in a bounded, non-serving setup hold with no public proxy. An authorized operator must initialize the schema, provision the first administrator through private non-echoing stdin, then explicitly switch to the documented merchant runtime. A fresh UTC setup deadline is required; the hold is not a spending cap, and database/storage charges continue.
Local checks pass, and earlier isolated runtime/login evidence exists. The complete saved-template deployment and published first-admin stdin path still require hosted acceptance. Real mobile-device and actual sender-delivery acceptance remain outstanding. Do not open live checkout based on this listing alone.
Common Use Cases
- A merchant-operated pickup storefront for one location and USD physical products.
- A customizable source base for developer-assisted Square setup.
- Sandbox-first evaluation of catalog, checkout recovery, refunds and pickup operations.
Shipping, subscriptions, gift cards, loyalty and multi-merchant SaaS are outside the supported release scope.
Dependencies for Square Pickup Storefront Hosting
- Supported Node 22.12+ within 22.x or Node 24.x, and pnpm 12.14.0.
- A dedicated Railway application and PostgreSQL database with protected server configuration.
- Buyer-owned Square Sandbox application, seller/location, token and webhook signing key.
- An approved planned HTTPS origin; no public proxy during the setup hold.
- An authorized operator for explicit schema initialization, private first-admin stdin provisioning and documented runtime cutover.
- Merchant policies, stock allocation, backup/recovery ownership and buyer-specific acceptance before production payments.
Root Railway configuration contains build settings only. The template explicitly selects the setup hold, static merchant-sandbox preflight and Never restart. Follow the installation guide for normal-runtime settings; schema creation and administrator provisioning are never recurring start/deploy hooks.
Why Deploy Square Pickup Storefront on Railway?
Railway can host the application and dedicated PostgreSQL together while the merchant retains configuration and deployment ownership. A free administrator Updates card provides a cached, read-only release notice; it does not install updates or upgrade customer deployments. Installation and upgrades remain operator-driven: no automatic fleet updater, recurring schema bootstrap or production activation is included.
