Railway offers a free trial with starter credits and up to 5 services per project, which is plenty to deploy and evaluate Vaultwarden. For ongoing use, you'll want a paid plan (Hobby or higher) to keep the service running continuously. Vaultwarden is especially light on resources — it runs as a single service on built-in SQLite storage — so it's inexpensive to keep online.

Implementation Details

• Internal HTTP port: 80
• Health endpoint: /alive
• Persistent volume: /data (SQLite vault storage — back this up, since losing it can mean losing the vault)
• Key environment variables:
  • ADMIN_TOKEN — secures the Vaultwarden admin panel (generated for you)
  • DOMAIN — the app's public URL
  • SIGNUPS_ALLOWED=true — allows creating the first account
  • WEBSOCKET_ENABLED=true — enables live sync to clients

A note on privacy: by default the server fetches website icons from the sites you save, which can reveal those domains to third parties. You can turn icon downloading off in Vaultwarden if you prefer. Always use a strong, unique master password and enable two-factor authentication where possible.
