Deploy and Host Weaviate on Railway
Weaviate is an open-source vector database with built-in hybrid search, filtering and a GraphQL and REST API, used for semantic search and RAG.
About Hosting Weaviate
This template runs the official cr.weaviate.io/semitechnologies/weaviate image with a persistent volume at /data, so collections and vectors survive redeploys. Anonymous access is off: a random API key is generated at deploy time and stored in the service variable AUTHENTICATION_APIKEY_ALLOWED_KEYS. Open the service Variables tab to read it, then send it as Authorization: Bearer with every request. The REST and GraphQL API is served on the public URL (for example /v1/schema). Weaviate's gRPC port (50051) is not exposed publicly because Railway's public domain is HTTP only; gRPC-based client features work from other Railway services over the private network.
Common Use Cases
- Semantic and hybrid search over text, images or other embeddings
- Retrieval for RAG pipelines and AI agents
- Recommendation and classification by vector similarity
Dependencies for Weaviate Hosting
- One service with a volume; nothing else

Why Deploy Weaviate on Railway?
Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Your vector database is protected by a generated API key from the first start.
