The service is a single Node 18+ process that serves the page and proxies two calls to Kavel: submit a prompt, then poll the task until the image is ready. It works with nothing configured on Kavel's free anonymous tier (watermarked, a couple of images a day per server IP). Add KAVEL_API_KEY to run on your own account, and KAVEL_MODEL to pick a model your plan includes. Railway provides PORT, and /health is the health check.

Implementation Details

POST /api/generate returns a task id; GET /api/status?id= polls it. A free job waits in a queue and only starts when it is polled, so the page keeps polling. Running out of credits comes back as HTTP 200 with data.wall: true, which the server turns into a readable message. Photo edits (hairstyle, outfit, old photo restoration) live in the Kavel image studio.
