Deploy and Host AnythingMCP on Railway
AnythingMCP is a self-hosted MCP gateway that converts REST, SOAP, GraphQL, SQL, and existing MCP services into AI-ready tools. It includes a web dashboard, connector catalog, authentication, audit logging, and dynamic MCP endpoints for Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, and other compatible clients.
About Hosting AnythingMCP on Railway
Railway runs the pinned Docker Hub image alongside managed PostgreSQL, automatically provisions networking and TLS, and provides persistent database storage. The public domain routes to the web UI while the container keeps its backend API on the internal port 4000.
Tech Stack
- AnythingMCP v0.15.0
- Node.js and NestJS backend
- Next.js frontend
- Prisma ORM
- PostgreSQL 18
- Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Docker on Railway
Why Deploy AnythingMCP on Railway
- One-click deployment from a maintained Docker image
- Managed PostgreSQL with persistent storage
- Automatic HTTPS and public service domains
- Generated secrets for JWT, encryption, and MCP credentials
- Simple scaling, logs, health checks, and redeployments
Common Use Cases
- Expose internal REST, SOAP, GraphQL, and SQL systems to AI clients
- Build MCP tools from APIs without writing integration code
- Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, and other MCP clients
- Govern connector access with authentication, roles, and audit logs
- Prototype or self-host an AI integration gateway
Deployment Notes
- The public Railway domain routes to container port 3000, serving the Next.js UI and proxying API requests.
- The backend listens internally on port 4000; the start command clears the Railway PORT variable before launching the image entrypoint so the two processes do not conflict.
- JWT_SECRET and ENCRYPTION_KEY are generated automatically. Keep ENCRYPTION_KEY backed up because it protects stored connector credentials.
- The first registered account becomes the administrator. Subsequent registration is disabled by default.
- MCP_AUTH_MODE is set to both, with generated bearer and API key credentials available in Railway variables.
- PostgreSQL data persists at /var/lib/postgresql/data. The app service has no volume because its durable state is stored in PostgreSQL.
Dependencies for AnythingMCP on Railway
AnythingMCP requires PostgreSQL for users, organizations, connectors, tools, authentication, and audit data. Redis is optional and is omitted from this minimal template; caching and rate limiting continue to operate without it.
