Deploy and Host LibreTranslate on Railway
LibreTranslate is a free, open-source machine translation API powered by Argos Translate. It runs fully offline on your own server, with a simple web UI and a JSON API.
About Hosting LibreTranslate
This template runs the official libretranslate/libretranslate:latest image with a volume at /home/libretranslate/.local for the language models. To keep memory and first-boot time reasonable, the start command loads English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Japanese with 2 workers. The first boot downloads these models (a few minutes) to the volume; each restart checks for missing or updated models. To change languages, edit --load-only in the service's start command.
The API is public and has no API key by default. Use --api-keys and the ltmanage keys command if you want to restrict it.
Common Use Cases
- Translate text and documents in your own apps without a paid API
- Offer a private translation page to a team
- Keep text off third-party translation services
Dependencies for LibreTranslate Hosting
- One service with a volume; nothing else
