Deploy and Host Open WebUI on Railway
Open WebUI is a self-hosted AI interface for chatting with local and cloud-based models through a clean web app. It gives users a familiar chat experience while supporting flexible model connections, user management, and extensibility for private or team AI workflows.

About Hosting Open WebUI
Hosting Open WebUI gives you your own AI workspace that you can connect to the model provider of your choice. This template deploys the Open WebUI application on Railway and keeps the setup intentionally lightweight. After deployment, you can open the admin settings and connect external providers such as Ollama, OpenAI-compatible APIs, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Groq, Together, vLLM, or other supported backends. This approach is ideal when you want the interface hosted separately while keeping model configuration flexible and controlled from the Open WebUI dashboard.
Common Use Cases
- Run a private AI chat interface for personal, team, or internal workflows
- Connect Open WebUI to your preferred model provider or OpenAI-compatible API
- Build a flexible AI workspace with users, conversations, tools, and custom model settings
Dependencies for Open WebUI Hosting
- A Railway account for deploying and hosting the Open WebUI service
- A model provider or inference backend configured after deployment, such as Ollama, OpenRouter, DeepSeek API, OpenAI-compatible APIs, Groq, Together, vLLM, or similar
Deployment Dependencies
- Open WebUI: https://openwebui.com/
- Open WebUI Documentation: https://docs.openwebui.com/
- Railway: https://railway.com/
- OpenRouter: https://openrouter.ai/
- Ollama: https://ollama.com/
Implementation Details
This template deploys Open WebUI only. It does not include a bundled model runtime by default.
After deployment, open your Open WebUI instance and configure a model provider from:
Admin Panel → Settings → Connections
For an OpenAI-compatible provider, add the provider base URL and API key in the Open WebUI dashboard. For Ollama, make sure the Ollama server is reachable from the deployed Open WebUI service.
