Deploy and Host OpenHands on Railway
OpenHands is an open-source AI software-development agent. In its web app, Agent Canvas, you describe a task and the agent writes code, runs commands and edits files in a sandbox.
About Hosting OpenHands
This template runs the official ghcr.io/openhands/agent-canvas image with a persistent volume at /root/.openhands, so settings and conversation history survive redeploys. A random API key is generated for you. Open the service's Variables tab in Railway to read LOCAL_BACKEND_API_KEY, open the public URL (the UI is at /canvas), enter that key when asked, then add your LLM provider and API key in the settings. Anyone with the key can run commands in the container, so keep it secret.
Common Use Cases
- Delegate coding tasks, bug fixes and refactors to an AI agent
- Run an always-on agent workspace reachable from any browser
- Try different LLM providers on the same task
Dependencies for OpenHands Hosting
- One service with a volume; nothing else
- An API key for the LLM provider you want the agent to use, entered in the UI
