Deploy and Host Rove on Railway
Rove is an open-source, self-hosted AI agent framework for companies that want to manage their own assistant. Start with its web interface, connect an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions provider, and configure your company's instructions and integrations. Optional Slack integration is included. This early release focuses on the core; a ready-made company plugin catalog is not included.
About Hosting Rove
This template provisions Rove 1.0.1, PostgreSQL 18 with pgvector, and authenticated Redis 8.2. PostgreSQL and Redis use persistent volumes and private networking. Only Rove receives a public web address.
After deployment, open Rove's public URL and use the generated ROVE_SETUP_SECRET from its Railway variables to create the first administrator. Save the recovery key. Configure your model provider in the web interface to begin chatting; model API usage is billed separately by your provider.
Keep BETTER_AUTH_SECRET private and stable across updates. After setup, stop Rove before removing ROVE_SETUP_SECRET and starting it again. Run one Rove replica. For later updates, stop the existing Rove deployment before starting its replacement; rolling updates are not supported in this release.
Common Use Cases
- Set up a company-managed AI assistant with browser-based chat and administration.
- Connect your own remote MCP services and configure skills for company workflows.
- Propose workflow improvements through Agent Improvement Proposals (AIPs), with final changes reviewed through GitHub pull requests.
Dependencies for Rove Hosting
- A Railway workspace with capacity for the three included services and two persistent volumes.
- An OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions endpoint and the credentials required by your provider for chat.
- Optional GitHub credentials and a company-owned repository for AIPs.
- Optional remote MCP endpoints and their credentials for external tools. This template does not deploy third-party MCP servers or plugin sandbox infrastructure.
Why Deploy Rove on Railway?
Railway keeps the application and its data services together with generated secrets, private database connections, and a public HTTPS entry point. The web interface handles administration after the initial deployment.
Rove is an early release. Validate setup, model connectivity, and persistence in your own environment before relying on it for company work. Ready-made company plugins are installed separately when available; they are not bundled with this template.
