Deploy and Host rqlite on Railway

rqlite is a lightweight, distributed relational database that uses SQLite as its storage engine and is operated through a simple HTTP API.

About Hosting rqlite

This template runs the official rqlite/rqlite:10.6.5 image as a single node on port 4001 with a persistent volume at /rqlite/file. A start command writes an authentication file from the service variables RQLITE_USER and RQLITE_PASSWORD, which are generated at deploy time; every API request needs those credentials as HTTP Basic auth (only the /readyz health check is anonymous). Open the Variables tab to read them.

Common Use Cases

  • A small SQLite database reachable over HTTP
  • Store app data with the /db/execute and /db/query endpoints
  • Add more nodes later to make it fault tolerant

Dependencies for rqlite Hosting

  • One service with a volume; nothing else

Deployment Dependencies

Why Deploy rqlite on Railway?

Railway gives you a public HTTPS URL, a persistent volume and automatic restarts with no server to maintain. Access is behind a generated password, so the database is not open to strangers. Example: curl -u USER:PASSWORD https:///db/query?q=SELECT+1.
